I am a big believer in repurposing. One of the ways I do is with empty food jars. Salsa jars, pickle jars, peanut butter jars. You get the idea.
Removing the labels it can be a tedious process. Some of those labels have some pretty heavy duty adhesive on them.
I have purchased goo gone at the dollar store. Which is relatively inexpensive. But…the bottles are very small. I thought I could come up with a more frugal alternative.
I decided to try baby oil. Guess what? It worked. I have been using this method for a couple of years now.
The Problem. Baby oil tends to run all over the place on the jar. I used quite a bit of oil to get the label completely saturated down to the adhesive.
The Solution. Make a paste out of baby oil and baking soda. It worked perfectly and cost pennies to make.
Label Remover
- 1 part baby oil ( I did use slightly more then 1 part as it was a bit dry)
- 2 parts baking soda
Remove as much of the label as possible before applying the paste. Let sit for a couple of minutes and you can remove the label residue easily.
